Penrith on a Plate
A chance to sample some of the finest foods and beverages lovingly produced in Eden and beyond at the annual Penrith on a Plate food festival day. Lots of artisan food and craft stalls, cookery demos, quality hot foods, independent shops and great entertainment.

Explore ‘The World of the Honey Bee’
An afternoon of activities for adults and children
Bees of all types play an important part in food production, agricultural production, forestry and climate. There are over 20,000 known species of bee globally. Around 270 species of bee have been recorded in the UK. Only one of these is the famous Honeybee who you can meet at Acorn Bank. A friendly insect, vital for the production of all your food.
2.00 - 2.45. p.m. presentation in the ‘Drawing Room’ at the main house:‘The Bee and the Garden’ by ‘Beekeeper Dominic’,
followed by ‘I Spy Bee Friendly Flowers’ around the grounds.
Acorn Bank, has a watermill and other beautiful gardens to stroll around. The tea room has delicious cakes and snacks. The property is open from 10am to 5pm.
Hosted by Penrith and District Beekeepers Association, a local charity that operates a teaching apiary in the orchard at Acorn Bank.

- Spot the queen bee in the observation hive and see what a colony of bees looks like behind glass.
- Talk to the beekeepers
- Learn about beekeeping, the changes and the challenges.
- Try on a bee suit and, for the brave, join some beekeepers inspecting the bees.
- Find out how honey is made.
- Taste some local honey.

Dairy Farm Tour
Join award winning farmer Mike Walsh at Bunkers Hill near Greystoke for a short tour of his dairy farm. He'll show you the milking parlour, describe to how silage and hay is produced, and you might meet some calves too!
Mike sells unpasteurised milk - so the milk you buy will have come from the cows that morning! Mike will be able to explain the process, including the rigorous sterilisation and testing the milk undergoes, and will describe the benefits of drinking raw milk! The milk is sold via a self-service milk bar, along side cheeses from Appleby Creamery, local butter, eggs, new potatoes and delicious ice cream.

Taste samples and buy sausages, bacon and other cuts, and also get a snack or your lunch in the form of a bacon or sausage sandwich. No booking necessary, and entry's free - just come along.

Note that parking is limited and that there are no toilet facilities available
